Poppy web

Poppy knows she's in safe hands now! She's friendly and gentle with all, and the company of other dogs definitely brings out her confidence. She walks well on her leash, but she's still a little fearful of putting the actual leash on. Nothing a little more time and patience can cure! Poppy was transferred to the San Antonio Humane Society with 22 other dogs from the City of San Antonio Animal Care Services. They were a part of an emergency seizure from a home on the City's East Side where over 50 dogs and puppies were being kept in unlivable conditions. We hope that you'll understand Poppy may need some time to feel comfortable with new visitors. Give her a chance!

This friendly pittie is named Animal-Cracker and she's been described, according to staff, as "just perfect"! She's an affectionate girl who enjoys her walks. She knows how to SIT for treats and loves toys. Looking for a friendly dog who is destined to greet you daily with ‘where-have-you-been-all-my-life' kisses? Animal-Cracker will fill your home and your life with good energy and positive vibes. Animal-Cracker would not do well in a home with cats. She was returned to the San Antonio Humane Society after her previous owners moved out of state. Animal-Cracker's adoption fee has been sponsored by KNA Solutions who are hoping this sweet pup will find her forever home soon!

Ever heard the term, never judge a book by its cover? The same can often be applied to shelter dogs. Never completely judge a shelter dog by their kennel behavior! Some dogs are simply stressed by the shelter environment, but once they are out and about it's easy to see who they truly are. Sasha is a very gentle and sweet 7-year-old girl. She enjoys going on walks, doesn't pull on her leash, and walks at a steady pace. She loves treats, attention, and showing off her best self (when away from the kennel).

Sasha came to the SAHS after being transferred from another rescue. Our partnerships include dozens of other shelters and rescue groups in our area. Transferring pets between shelters opens up space for more pets to be received and also helps hard-to-adopt pets find a new family in another community. The joint efforts of these collaborations and partnerships not only makes our community a more humane environment but also saves hundreds of pets who might otherwise face euthanasia due to overcrowding.

Adoption fee includes spay/neuter surgery, first set of vaccinations, microchip, de-wormer, flea and heartworm prevention, complimentary wellness exam (within 5 days of adoption) and complimentary follow-up care (within 14 days of adoption) at any VCA animal hospital , and 30 days 24PetWatch Pet Insurance.

Goku, a fun-loving and intelligent gentleman, had a great morning so far! He made his TV debut on KENS 5 and goofed around during his interview with Sarah Forgany and Barry Davis. This happy-go-lucky guy is ready for his forever home and thanks to the folks at Starbucks, he is now a huge fan of pupwhips!

Ready to spend lots of time tossing the ol' tennis ball around? Goku loves to play fetch! But when it isn't play time, Goku is a regular with our volunteer dog trainers. He is known to respond well to training and knows how to sit for a treat. This active boy would do well with an active companion. The stress of the shelter seems to have him feeling down though, and he'd like more time and space to get out and about. At this time, we do not believe he would do well in a home with other pets. However, his enthusiasm for the yard knows no bounds. He's a strong lad and doesn't mind a lap or two around the yard. Goku has a Guardian Angel. This means a generous adopter has sponsored his adoption fee! Please ask staff for further details about this goofball. Visit him soon! Age: 5 years Weight: 52 pounds Breed: Retriever/Hound mix

UPDATE: Donut and Coffee found their new family!

Donut and Coffee have Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH) or "Wobbly Cat Syndrome." CH is caused by an underdeveloped cerebellum and affects a cat’s balance and coordination. This is what causes their jerky or “wobbly” steps. They may trip and fall sometimes, but don't worry! This condition doesn't affect their lifespan and doesn't cause them any pain. Donut and Coffee are sweet kittens who love to play and receive attention. We are hoping they will find the perfect home together, and we're asking for your help to share their story and find them a forever family!

We're looking for adopters who either live in a one-story home or a two-story home with safety gates on stairs to prevent falls. Additionally, because CH cats are more vulnerable to predators, they must be indoor cats only.

Thank you Wayward Whiskers Cat Rescue for caring for Donut and Coffee until they were ready for adoption.
