What to Expect:
All pet owners hoping to take advantage of these low-cost services must have their dog on a leash, and their cat in a humane cat carrier during visit. Loose and/or uncontrolled animals are not allowed.

At our wellness clinics, our staff briefly examine your pet to determine if they’re healthy enough to receive vaccinations and other services. If our veterinarians feel your pet may be too sick for vaccines, they will refer you to your regular veterinarian or nearest emergency clinic.

{slider Disclaimer|closed}
The San Antonio Humane Society is a shelter and NOT a full-service veterinary clinic.
We are NOT able to treat medical concerns including, but not limited to:

  • Ear infections
  • Skin infections/Hair Loss
  • Vomiting
  • Chronic medical conditions
  • Heart murmurs
  • Chronic dietary concerns (not immediately related to whether or not your pet is healthy enough for vaccination)
  • Heartworms

Our Veterinarians and staff make vaccine and preventative care recommendations after a brief exam. Recommendations and dates for follow-up vaccines and other preventative care are explained on the exam sheet, including existing conditions that should be followed up with your primary care, full-service veterinarian.

For medical concerns not related to the wellness/preventative care visit, our veterinarians recommend you and your pet schedule an appointment or establish a relationship with a full-service veterinarian.

Due to current Texas laws, we are only able to provide preventative care in the form of vaccines, heartworm/FIV/FeLV testing, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, and deworming. These services can only be provide during wellness clinic hours.

{slider Rabies Vaccine FAQ}
According to state and local laws, all dogs and cats must be current and vaccinated against rabies by a licensed veterinarian.

If you are not able to provide proof of prior rabies vaccine or the vaccine date is past expiration, a 1-year rabies vaccine will be administered to your pet at an additional cost.

Your pet can receive their first rabies vaccine at 12-16 weeks of age.

We are able to administer and update your animal’s rabies vaccines for a 3-year interval provided that:

  1. Your pet has had its first 1-year rabies vaccine.
  2. You bring written proof (not past the expiration date) that your pet has had a rabies vaccine within the past year.
