Tours of the San Antonio Humane Society are free of charge and last between 30 minutes to just over an hour depending on the option selected. Tours can be scheduled Monday-Friday between 10am-12pm or 3pm-5pm, or on Saturdays between 10am-12pm. If these times do not work for your group, please include a note in your request form and we will do our best to accommodate your needs. Maximum capacity for in-person shelter tours is 20, and we ask that 1 adult be present for every 4 children in attendance. Groups larger than 20 individuals may be split into 2 groups.
All tours will include discussion of the SAHS mission, an opportunity to walk through the kennels where our adoptable animals are housed*, and will give participants an idea of how they can make a difference in pets’ lives.
*Pet interaction on the tour is subject to availability and not a guarantee.
Please take a look at following tour options to determine which one is the best fit for your group:
A Pet’s Journey - Go behind the scenes at the SAHS to learn about the journey our pets go on when they arrive at the shelter. We will walk through our new medical facility as well as the adoption kennels while learning about the care and rehabilitation our staff provides to each furry friend that comes through our doors. This tour lasts 60-75 minutes and is best suited for participants in 1st grade and older.
The SAHS Mission in Action - Learn all about the mission of the SAHS and see it in action as we walk through the adoption kennels. We will discuss pet care and talk about how we can make a difference for pets in our community. This all-ages tour lasts 30-45 minutes.
SAHS Virtual Tour - Either tour option can also be brought to you virtually via Zoom.
Humane Education Outreach
The San Antonio Humane Society can also visit your school or community group to speak about the work we do in the San Antonio community.
We are able to offer presentations on the following topics, which can be adapted for any age group:
We Are the San Antonio Humane Society - This presentation will give an overview of who we are and what we do at the SAHS. We will discuss each component of our mission statement and will impart some ideas of how you can get involved and make a difference in pets’ lives.
SAHS Careers - There are a wide variety of jobs available at the SAHS. This presentation will provide an introduction to several different career opportunities available at an animal shelter. No matter what your interests are, if you love animals and want to have a career helping them, there is an animal shelter job for you!
Choosing the Right Pet - Adopting a pet from an animal shelter is a great way to help a pet in need. Adding a new furry family member to your household is a big decision and this presentation will provide an overview of some of the things to consider during the decision-making process.
Virtual Presentations - Any of these presentations can also be shared via Zoom.
