All about BJ
BJ is a 3 years, 1 month old male Domestic Shorthair/Mix cat who weighs 9 pounds and has been with us for 40 days.
Meet BJ, a handsome 3-year-old Domestic Shorthair who came to the San Antonio Humane Society as a stray in June. During his intake exam, our medical team knew he needed their specialized care as soon as possible. A urinalysis revealed he had a urinary tract infection, and he immediately began treatment with a course of antibiotics. Although the infection resolved, BJ continued to experience episodes of stress-induced cystitis, a painful condition that can become life-threatening if left untreated. Thankfully, our medical team was able to catch and treat each episode early.
To help keep him healthy, BJ will need to remain on a prescription urinary diet for the rest of his life. Even with this special diet, there is still a possibility he could develop urinary blockages or future episodes of cystitis. His future family should be prepared to provide plenty of fresh water, a low-stress home, and monitor him closely for any urinary changes.
Despite all of his hardships, BJ has remained a happy guy, and even become a favorite among the staff in our Leeu Naylor Medical Building. He enjoys his own "penthouse" suite and gladly soaks up attention from everyone who stops by to visit. While he can be a little shy at first, a few kind words and gentle pets are all it takes for him to become your new best friend. He's also quite the chatterbox and has been known to strike up a conversation of his own!
If you've been looking for a sweet companion to call your own, consider giving BJ the second chance he deserves.
