Sophie has overcome incredible challenges

ADOPTED! Meet Sophie, a lovable 6-year-old Terrier mix who has overcome incredible challenges and is now searching for a family to call her own. In early June, she was found in the middle of a busy street after most likely being hit by a car. Despite the pain she must have been in, Sophie never once growled or snapped toward the Good Samaritans who rushed to help her. Instead, she leaned into their kindness, proving from the very beginning just how gentle and trusting of a girl she is.

Sophie - Medical story

When Sophie arrived at our shelter, it was clear she had been through more than any pup should. She was having trouble putting weight on one of her back legs, had fleas, and her coat was in poor condition. As our medical team began caring for her, they discovered she was heartworm positive, had multiple pelvic fractures, and needed extensive dental work. She also had an underdeveloped eye, likely the result of old trauma, that ultimately had to be removed so she could finally live pain-free.

Through every exam and laser light therapy session, Sophie never lost her sweet spirit. She accepted our team’s helping hands with patience and a wagging tail. Today, Sophie is feeling better than ever and is ready to start the next chapter of her life. Her future family should know that, because of her past injuries, she may one day need surgery on her hip if it ever becomes painful, and she may be more prone to arthritis as she ages.

Sophie - Medical story

Keeping her at a lean healthy weight, providing continued daily joint supplements, and partnering with a primary care veterinarian will help support her long-term comfort and well-being. She has already started her heartworm treatment and the rest is covered through participating VCA Animal Hospitals.

Sophie is simply looking for a soft bed, a loving family, and someone who will show her that the rest of her story can be filled with unconditional love. If you’re looking for a dog with a heart of gold, Sophie is waiting to meet you!
