Spring Camp Humane 2011

The first ever Spring Camp Humane at the San Antonio Humane Society was a great success. Each day of camp was full of excited campers, eager volunteers and packed with great presenters, crafts, fun and games. We had many amazing animal organizations and speakers from all over the state join us for our new adventure of Spring Camp Humane.

The foundation of our Education Programs is fun and interactive learning about all sorts of animals and their well-being and Spring Camp Humane was no exception. This spring we welcomed a variety of presenters including Sea World, Retired Rabbit Sanctuary, Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation, Louise Suhey, entomology specialist, and her hissing cockroaches, Alamo Retriever Club, River City Weight Pulling Club, Rob Cary dog trainers, and SA Area Mini Horse Club. Each group showcased their specialties with live animal demonstrations or presentations and taught us how to properly care for each of the different animals.

At Spring Camp Humane all of our campers also became Humane Society experts. Each day of camp our campers took tours of the shelter and learned about how we house and help each and every dog, cat, puppy, and kitten we take in. Campers also got to learn some great dog and cat care tips from some of our resident Humane Society experts and even got to put their skills to the test as they met some animals in need.

Though our first Spring Camp Humane flew by in a whirl of fun and learning, we wouldn’t change a thing! It was a great way to start what we hope will be a long standing tradition of spring break learning and fun at the San Antonio Humane Society. And though we’re sad the fun ended so soon, no need to worry, Summer Camp Humane is just around the corner. We can’t wait to see you in June, July, and August!
