  • Manages and coordinates shelter operations
  • Ensures organizational efficiency by organizing, planning and supervising the programs related to the operation of the adoption center, surgical department, receiving department, and animal care department
  • Responsible for the well being and humane treatment of animals on and off site
  • Supervises building and ground maintenance, purchases supplies and equipment and is responsible for proper maintenance and use of equipment
  • Acts as liaison with cooperative veterinary programs

  • Supervises the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of all contributions and gifts
  • Coordinates all grant writing strategies
  • Responsible for creation of direct mail solicitations
  • Manages development, public relations, humane education and volunteer.
  • Inform the public about animal related issues (adoption, spay/neuter, micro-chipping, overpopulation problem) through various media outlets and/or social networking sites.

  • Supervision of the entire medical department, including the surgical staff and animal health staff
  • Spay/neuter of shelter and public clinic animals, additional surgeries as required for shelter animals
  • Medical evaluation and treatment of sick/injured shelter animals, development of individual treatment plans to facilitate adoption
  • Education of staff and general public about pertinent animal health and welfare issues
  • Development and implementation of medical protocols pertaining to shelter animals including preventative medicine, treatment of illness and injuries; ensure staff compliance to protcols
  • Be a liason between other veterinarians and animal health professionals in and around the area
  • Ultimately ensures the health and well being of all shelter animals under our care

  • Manages the maintenance and compliance of all laws and regulations pertaining to DOL, OSHA, EEOC, FMLA, Worker’s Compensation and Unemployment

  • Manage the San Antonio Humane Society’s accounting department providing information, primarily financial in nature, about all company activities that will assist management, its board members and other users in making educated economic decisions about the SAHS’s future
  • Oversee’s the activities of the accounting department for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports
  • Ensure the accurate and timely processing and management of all accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Establishes and maintains systems and controls that verify the integrity of all systems, processes and data, and enhance the company’s value
  • Assure’s corporate income tax compliance to assure the accurate and timely completion of all corporate income tax returns taking full advantage of all favorable tax codes

  • Performs monthly and end of year closing activities including reconciliation of business accounts consisting of bank statements, credit card, benefits, allocations, accrual entries, among others
  • Other accounting functions include: recording of daily deposits and cash receipts, preparing invoices, processing accounts payable checks and ACH payments on a weekly basis
  • Answer financial and accounting questions by researching information and interpreting data
  • Ensures all tax forms are correct and have been filed to the required authorities on time (including sales tax reporting, 1099, 1096), among others

The Transfer and Intake team determines the shelter’s adoptable animal vacancy and works with other shelters, rescues, and the public to fill adoptable pet space. The SA Humane Society performs spay/neuter surgery on approximately 20,000 animals per year with a handful of dedicated veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, volunteers, and Associate Veterinarians working as a unified team under our Chief Veterinarian. These hardworking individuals work constantly against the struggle with San Antonio’s pet overpopulation. For more information about spay/neuter please click here!

The SA Humane Society employs part-time and full-time veterinary technicians to help in the care of our animals. They are responsible for documenting and evaluating the health status and temperament of the animals in our care. This includes providing appropriate medical care and screening of all incoming and adopted animals.

The SA Humane Society employs part-time and full-time veterinary assistants to help in the daily care and upkeep of our shelter animals. They are responsible for maintaining a clean and stress-free environment for all animals during their stay in the medical building.

The medical front desk team works collaboratively with all individuals in the shelter to help serve the public and facilitate the smooth flow of intake, surgery, and wellness clinics. They are responsible for data entry, public education, and monetary interactions.

The SA Humane Society employs part-time and full-time adoption counselors/customer service representatives to help in the care of our animals. They are responsible for preparing pets and their paperwork for adoption, providing accurate information and friendly service to the public, and screening potential pet adopters.

The SA Humane Society employs part-time and full-time kennel technicians to help in the care of our animals. They are responsible for general care and maintenance of the shelter animals. This includes feeding, cleaning, disinfecting and grooming. They also assist in the process of introducing potential pet adopters to the many pets.
