Receiving for puppies, small breed dogs, cats, and kittens will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays starting at 10 am. We will intake animals on a first come first serve basis until all available space has been filled or until 2pm (whichever comes first). Please keep in mind that space is very limited so we strongly suggest arriving early. If all intake space has been filled before your animal is evaluated you must try again on the next receiving day.

To be eligible for intake puppies must be between the ages of two and six months and weigh over two pounds but not more than 20 pounds. Small adult dogs must weigh less than 20 pounds. Cats and kittens must weigh over two pounds (but for females not more than 7-9 lbs and males not more than 10 lbs). All animals must be friendly, free of any eye or nasal discharge, and have no hair loss.

To help offset the cost of the pet’s care we do require receiving fees as followed:
Puppies and kittens under four months of age - $5 each or $25 per litter
Puppies four to six months of age - $25
Small adult dogs - $25 each
Kittens and cats over four months of age - $15

- If you have an adult dog over 20 pounds you are trying to surrender please email for further instructions.

- If you are attempting to return an animal previously adopted from us please contact the front desk at 210-226-7461 (select option 2) or email to request a return to shelter appointment.

- If you are attempting to transfer an animal from another animal shelter, rescue group, or animal hospital please contact for more information.

All animals will be vaccinated upon arrival and will be spayed or neutered before going home to their new owners. We screen adopters well, and try our best to make sure that every animal goes to a good home.
