We take pride in our ability to provide comfort and loving guardianship to homeless pets that come to the San Antonio Humane Society.
Our ability to properly care for these animals is solely made possible because of our community. As a result, we want to give back by offering Behind the Scenes tours. Our tours provide a Behind the Scenes perspective of the daily efforts made to ensure the well being of dogs and cats temporarily in our care.
Tours are by appointment, and are scheduled M-F from noon through 6pm. For availability and scheduling, please contact Kelly Grady at development@SAhumane.org
“I was very fortunate to get invited to the San Antonio Human Society Shelter. At first, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go because I always has the impression that shelters are a sad and ugly place. I’m glad I changed my mind. The tour really changed my perception. This shelter is synonymous of life, opportunities, happiness and encounters. They do a Titanic effort to keep it running like a clock and have all the animals at their best. Everyone should attend to a tour and witness how a group of caring and committed people gives dogs and cats an opportunity for a better life!”

“Participating in the San Antonio Humane Society Tour was a great experience for me. I was finally able to get a deeper understanding of how the SAHS works behind the scenes. What I came away with is that it’s a well oiled machine! I was very impressed with the facility and most importantly the staff. You can feel the passion the staff has for the work they do and the animals they take care of and house. Sometimes when you think of animal shelters you naively tend to label them as sad places because it’s a place where abandoned animals are brought and at times they come to the facility in bad shape. But at SAHS it’s the complete opposite, it’s a happy place because the staff works 110% to care for the animals and make them as comfortable as they can. The success stories for these dogs and cats happen mostly every day, every week so I can just imagine the joy that these daily and weekly successes bring to the SAHS staff. Just walking through the doors there is a contagious positive spirit about this place and I was so glad to have been exposed to it.”
