Please call (210) 226-7461 (select option 3) on the day you wish to bring the animal in to find out if we have space available and where to go!  We will update the message every morning at 8:30.

As our intake space only becomes available through the previous day’s adoptions, we can never predict how much space will be available for the next receiving day. The San Antonio Humane Society never euthanizes animals for time or intake space. If all intake space is filled before your animal is evaluated for intake, you must try again on the next receiving day as there are no waiting lists. Please call (210) 226-7461 (select option 3) on the day you wish to bring the animal in to find out if we have space available and where to go!  We will update the message every morning at 8:30.

All animals must be at least 8 weeks old, weigh at least 2 pounds and must be eating dry food on their own. They must also be free of any nasal discharge, eye discharge, and hair loss. These symptoms indicate diseases that could be contagious to the rest of our animal population. We request a receiving fee at the time of surrender. The fee helps offset the cost of their care while in the shelter. This fee is based on the animal's age, which will be determined by veterinary technicians, at the time of drop off.

Dogs and Cats Receiving Fees
Cats - $15.00
Kittens (4 months and under) - $5.00 each/$25.00 per litter

Dogs - $25.00
Puppies (4 months and under) - $5.00 each/$25.00 per litter

All animals will be vaccinated upon arrival and will be spayed or neutered before going home to their new owners. We screen adopters well, and try our best to make sure that every animal goes to a good home.

We help ACS with their daily influx of animals by receiving at our onsite facility at ACS. Receiving is done on a walk-in basis, appointments are not necessary and will be done on a first come, first serve basis. Please call (210) 226-7461 (select option 3) on the day you wish to bring the animal in to find out if we have space available and where to go!  We will update the message every morning at 8:30.
